Michigan Coach Kathy Teichert
On the tournament ... "It was a very disappointing weekend for us. Bri (Broderick) was the exception. She was the bright spot in the lineup for us. She just continues to play so, so well for us this year. Overall, we just did not get a lot of play from anyone else. It was nice to see Andrea (Ratigan) get a few rounds in the 70s, but overall it was just such a disappointing weekend. We're a good team. If we are not into it, we are not going to compete. We need to make sure we focus and really compete against the teams we face, especially now. We still have a lot of work ahead of us."
On if there was one particular thing that affected play ... "There wasn't just one thing. We had a significant amount of doubles (bogeys), triples and even some quads. The amount of putts we took was just too many. I look at our golf course as a good test of putting. It really can prep you for tournaments like this. If you can putt our greens you can putt any green. It was just difficulty to see us not be able to put ourselves in good positions around the greens. I just saw a poor display in almost every area."
On where the Wolverines go from here ... "We have to get back to the basics. We have to get some confidence coming back. We have to make some corrections and changes to get positive again. But this was a good test of golf for us. It was great competition. It gave us a really good sense of where we really are."
U-M Senior Brianna Broderick
On the Wolverines' finish in the strong tournament field ... "It was a very strong field and a tough tournament. This course is a Donald Ross design, which is famous for undulating greens. If you miss the green and put it in the wrong spot you are looking at a bogey. I think the course gave some of the girls a lot of trouble, and once you start performing bad you lose some of your confidence. I think that is what happened to a lot of the girls. It was a course where you just had to keep grinding and grinding. That can get hard to do that after three rounds of golf."
On her top-five finish ... "Honestly, I just kept grinding out there. I started poorly, but I just stayed patient and just grinded it out. I ended up getting some bogeys out of some bad shots, but I knew if I kept grinding it I could get those shots back. Today, I got on a birdie roll and just kept going with that and that helped me finish pretty good."
On where the team goes from here ... "Going into this tournament we were pretty pumped up. After this, some of the girls are a little discouraged. I think what is going to have to happen is to get back and to play golf, regroup and concentrate on what we do best and start gaining our confidence back. I have full confidence that we can do that."

For the third straight tournament this season, Brianna Broderick led the Wolverines and finished among the top five individually. This weekend she tied for fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship. To kick off the 2006-07 season, she tied for runner-up at the Lady Northern Invitational (Sept. 16-17) and followed with her second career medalist honor at the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 30-Oct. 1).
Brianna Broderick's five-over 218 total at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship is a season-best 54-hole tournament total and just barely missed her career-best total of 217, set at 2004 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate (Nov. 1-2). In three tournaments this season, Broderick is averaging 219.67 per 54-hole tournament.
With her final-round one-under 70 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Brianna Broderick tied her career best for a single-round tally. Two weeks ago Broderick set a new career best with a one-under 70 in the first round of the Wolverine Invitational, an event she went on to win. In both career-best rounds she posted 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys. Overall, it marked her third round under par this season and 11th career round under par.
With her second-round 78 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Andrea Ratigan set a new career best in her early career. She topped the 83 she had in her first collegiate round at the Wolverine Invitational. She also closed with a career-best 54-hole tournament total at 238, bettering by 14 shots her previous best -- 252 at the Wolverine Invitational.
By playing in the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Brianna Broderick and Ali Stinson played in their 38th straight tournaments for the Maize and Blue. The duo has yet to miss a tournament in their entire career. In fact the duo has also started all 38 of those tournaments. Former Wolverine Laura Olin holds the U-M record for consecutive tournaments, playing in 50 straight in her career.
