Michigan Coach Kathy Teichert
On the tournament ... "We played exceptionally well in the second round. The first round I thought we started off a little sluggish. But again they came back. I thought they responded well the last eight or nine holes, and that really kept us in the tournament. The second 18 I could not say one negative thing about how they played, how they persevered, and how they finished the day. Brianna (Broderick) was just incredible. Lindsay (Davis) finishing one-under in the second round, awesome. Ali (Stinson) and Ashley (Bauer) getting top 15 finishes was huge. Today we were not a strong as we should have been. We got out of the gate slow, but after getting a couple holes out of the way, we refocused and got things back on track. Once we got into the groove everything just clicked and we really came away with a big win."
On getting the win with the strong tournament field ... "This is a huge win for us. The fall counts just as much as the spring, and without this win we have couple of losses that we cannot afford to have on our resume. Michigan State beat us last week by 15. Ohio State only beat us by a couple. So, we're going to be neck and neck with these type of teams when it gets later in the season. This really gave us a great opportunity to see what they are going to do on our home course, especially when we are hosting the regional, and what we are going to face every single week. We know that getting off to a good start this fall is going to depict our season."
On what she thought about Brianna Broderick's win ... "Huge. She is awesome right now. She finished second last week. She wins this week. There is no question about it, she is one going to be reckoned with in the conference, in the region and in the national scene. She has really stepped up her game, I think the way she is responding to golf and responding to her own maturity level. She has stepped it up, she is walking proud, and she is walking with a confident air."
U-M Senior Brianna Broderick
On if she knew the final putt was in when she hit it ... "Not until it was a foot away."
On what she felt after it went it ... "Relief."
On getting the individual title ... "It is great. I have accomplished at least one of my goals this year. I wanted to win a tournament. It is even greater that it was at home. I had a good round and a bad round. Sometimes it comes down to who makes the best misses wins because I surely could have hit the ball better and could have played better. But what I did worked."
On having such a good start to her senior season ... "It is very encouraging. But it is just reinforcing what I worked on this summer and the beginning of this year is really starting to pay off."
On if she plays differently going into a playoff ... "I don't think I do. I just try to stay loose. Coach (Kathy) Teichert and I were trying to do that when it started. I was kind of making some jokes out there just to stay loose. But I don't think I really do anything different. I just try to start all over and just keep going through my pre-shot routine and hopefully that works. Today, it did."
On the tournament win for the team ... "This is just reinforcing the idea that what we are continually working on is starting to pay off. You know that you cannot take it for granted. We have to continue to work hard. Yes, it is great that we reached one of our goals to win our home tournament, but it is a long season and we have lots to accomplish."
U-M Senior Ali Stinson
On Michigan getting the home tournament win ... "It feels really good. It was our goal at the start of the season because this is our home course and this is where regionals is next. We want to be here at the end of the season, and this win can only help us reach that goal. I know that we all did not play as well as we wanted all the time, but we were able to grind it out and come away with the win."
On the team's mindset after two tournaments ... "We are really off to a good start. It (the win) gives us a lot of confidence because we won on our home course. We have a tough course, and the fact we were able to grind it out when we were not playing as well as we could have and get the win is a big. So, this definitely gives us a confidence boost."
U-M Freshman Ashley Bauer
On the tournament ... "It was a struggle, I have to admit. I was four over after five holes, so I started out really rough. I had no idea how the team was doing but it felt great to come in and to find out that we did win. It was really exciting. Everyone was pretty excited about it. It just meant a lot to the whole team to come back and play... I mean grind it out through the whole day."
On the tournament win ... "To do this well as a team in the second tournament puts a lot of expectations on us. We have a lot of really high goals for this season and we accomplished one of them today. So, it is really great for our team."
On what she thinks after two college tournaments ... "Last night I was really tired, and I crashed about 9:30 last night. It is totally different, but I am just getting used to it. The college tournaments are just different than high school tournaments in many ways, but I enjoy it and I never really got tired today. It was just pretty exciting all day."
