This Week: Notre Dame Invitational
The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's cross country team will send a 12-man contingent to the 50th annual Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Sept. 30) in South Bend, Ind. The men's blue division race is scheduled for a 5 p.m. EST/CDT start at the Notre Dame Golf Course. Drawing several of the nation's top team, the scored, five-mile event will feature No.1 Wisconsin, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Arizona. Last Time at the Notre Dame Invitational
In Michigan's last appearance at the Notre Dame Invitational, two seasons ago, sophomore Nick Willis paced the Wolverines to a second-place showing (92 points) among a competitive 23-team field. Willis also claimed second place individually, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:26. Senior Tom Greenless earned his third top-10 effort of the season, placing fourth with a time of 24:38. Seniors Alex L'Heureux and Nick Stanko and junior Tarn Leach finished within a 12-second window to round out the U-M scoring, claiming 24th, 29th and 33rd, respectively.
Recapping the Roy Griak Meet
A late surge by the Wolverines earned them fifth place (196 points) in their first scored meet of the 2005 season, last Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 24). Sophomore Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest HS) set the pace for U-M in his season debut, claiming 23rd place with a time of 24:54. The Wolverines placed their five scored runners among the race's top-50 finishers as the group came across the line within a 22-second window.

In the Polls
After claiming fifth place at last weekend's Roy Griak Invitational (Sept. 24), the Wolverines climbed eight spots to No. 14 in the most recent MONDO men's NCAA-I cross country poll, released Tuesday, Sept. 27. In the Great Lakes region, Michigan continued its trend of climbing up the rankings, moving to the No. 3 spot, behind Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

On the Horizon
After a two-week hiatus, the Wolverines will return to action in the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Terre Haute, Ind. A preview of the NCAA Championships, the first of two 8,000-meter men's races is slated to begin at 11 a.m. EST at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
