ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Justin Laury (Marietta, Ga./McEarchern HS) will lead a trio of University of Michigan men's gymnasts competing in next week's (Aug. 10-13) USA Gymnastics Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. At stake are 12 spots on the U.S. Senior National Team and possible berths to this fall's World Championships and Pan American Games.
Laury, who was a 2005 NCAA All-American and the 2005 Big Ten all-around champion, qualified to the USA Gymnastics Championships based on his fifth-place all-around finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships. He will be joined by fellow 2005 All-American Geoff Corrigan and current Michigan assistant coach Daniel Diaz-Luong.
Corrigan, who completed his collegiate eligibility during the 2005 season, was featured on the cover of last month's Technique Magazine for his winning performance at the 2005 National Qualifier competition June 25 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He is the first Wolverine to be featured on the cover of the magazine, which is a nationally distributed publication produced by USA Gymnastics.
Diaz-Luong came out of a two-year retirement in February to place fifth at the National Qualifier and earn a berth to the USA Championships.
