Exon Collects Second Career ITA Academic Award

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced yesterday (Monday, July 18) that University of Michigan junior-to-be Elizabeth Exon (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) was named a Scholar-Athlete for the 2004-05 academic year. It marks the second straight season that Exon has earned the distinction.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Exon, who is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, recorded her second consecutive season with at least 20 overall singles victories (20-15). She held a 13-11 dual match record at Nos. 2 and 3 and was listed No. 19 in the ITA's year-end Midwest regional singles rankings. Exon tallied a career-best 23-12 overall record in doubles, including a 17-6 dual match mark at No. 3. She teamed with senior-to-be Debra Streifler (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park HS) for a 14-3 mark and the Big Ten Conference's top record of 8-2 at the third position. Off the court, Exon was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team before earning her second U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award.
