CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- University of Michigan women's golfer Lindsay Davis (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS), a sophomore on the Wolverines 2005-06 team, was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Davis is one of 199 women's collegiate golfers to be recognized for the prestigious honor.
Davis, who is enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, is just the seventh Wolverine selected for the national honor, joining Tegan McCorkel and Tiffany McCorkel in 1994, Trish Watkins and Amy Talbot in 1999, Bess Bowers in 2000 and Sarah Kruer in 2003.
Davis, who was named U-M Women's Golf Academic Achievement Award, played in eight tournaments, with five starts. She ended first season averaging a 81.20 strokes per round and had eight of 23 rounds below 80. She competed in her first Big Ten Championships where she tied for 45th. Her effort helped the Maize and Blue to the best finish in the program's history as the Wolverines were the conference runner-ups. She also helped U-M to three team titles and three runner-up finishes in her first season.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50, and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
