Mueller, Smith Compete at World Championship Trials

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two members of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team competed at the 2005 U.S. World Championship Trials this past week (April 1-6) at IUPUI's University Natatorium. Freshman Justine Mueller (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS) qualified for finals in three events, including a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley, and was named to this summer's World University Games roster. Sophomore Lindsey Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) qualifed for "C" finals in a pair of freestyle events.
Mueller's top finish came on the first day of the trials (Friday, April 1), as she touched in 10th in the 200-meter IM at 2:16.74. Mueller also competed in "C" finals in two other events, finishing 19th in both the 400-yard IM (4:54.40) and 200-meter breaststroke (2:36.56).
Smith earned her top finish on Tuesday (April 5), touching the wall at 56.92 to finish 18th in the 100-meter freestyle. She also placed 23rd in the 200-meter freestyle (2:03.53).
Mueller will compete in the 2005 World University Games Aug. 11-21 in Izmir, Turkey.
