ANTIBES, France -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team concluded its Spring Break training trip to Antibes, France, with a narrow loss to the French National Team by a score of 206.800-206.000 Friday night (March 4).
Juniors Justin Laury (Marietta, Ga./McEachern HS), Luke Bottke (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) and Andrew DiGiore (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors HS) posted strong performances in their international debuts. Senior Eddie Umphrey (Albuquerque, N.M./LaCueva HS) won the still rings with a score of 9.40.
The lower-than-normal team scores are the result of the new international judging rules that were used in the competition.
The Wolverines resume competition in their final dual meet of the 2005 season when they travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Big Ten rival Ohio State on Sunday (March 13) at 1 p.m.
