ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior captain Peter Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) has been named CollegeSwimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season and third time of his career for his performance in last week's Texas Invitational (Dec. 1-3). Vanderkaay's NCAA qualifying times in all nine events in which he competed also earned him the Big Ten Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week laurel.

Vanderkaay also swam the fastest split among all competitors (45.78) as the second leg of the winning 800 free relay team, whose time of 6:22.76 also met the 'A' standard.
Over the three-day meet, the captain also met NCAA consideration times in two individual events --100-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley -- and as a member of three relay teams. The 400 IM was the captain's only second-place finish for which he failed to earn an automatic time, missing the cutoff by just under 1.5 seconds in 3:48.34. Vanderkaay was also a member of the 400 medley relay (3:15.01) and 200 (1:20.47) and 400 freestyle relay (2:56.79) teams, each meeting the NCAA 'B' standard.
The Big Ten laurel marks Vanderkaay's second of the season and 10th of his career, giving him at least two awards in each year as a Wolverine. The senior's first honors of the season came against Georgia (Nov. 11) after notching victories in three individual events and as a member of one victorious relay team.
The Maize and Blue are currently on a month break as they prepare to return to the pool on Jan. 13 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
