Knee Injury Sidelines Helvey for Remainder of Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball program announced today (Wednesday, Dec. 21) that junior guard Kelly Helvey (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic HS) will be lost for the remainder of the 2005-06 season due to a right knee injury that will require surgery.

Helvey had a career performance on Dec. 6, exploding for a career-high 30 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to lead Michigan to a 77-59 route of Maryland Eastern Shore at Crisler Arena.
The lone upperclassman on the U-M team this season, Helvey has earned career averages of 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 68 games wearing the Maize and Blue.
Michigan closes out its non-conference schedule on the road this Friday (Dec. 23) against St. Bonaventure. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip at the Reilly Center in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
