Sayao One of Michigan's Rhodes Scholarship Nominees

Update (11/15/05): Chuck Sayao was one of 12 finalists to advance to the next stage of the Rhodes Scholarship selection process. He was invited to interview with the Ontario Rhodes Scholarship Committee on Nov. 24-25 in Toronto, Ontario. Following the interview process, two finalists will be awarded Rhodes Scholarships.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seven University of Michigan students have been nominated by the University to compete for the prestigious Rhodes, Marshall and Mitchell scholarships. Among them are former men's swimmer Chuck Sayao (2002-05), a civil engineering and environmental economics major, and Spencer Dowdall, a senior on the men's track and field team. Sayao has been nominated for the Rhodes Scholarship and will be notified in mid-November if he has been selected to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Sayao was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference selection and U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award recipient. He is interested in studying environmental change and management at Oxford University, with a particular interest in the overlap between environmental and social policy.
