PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore Alyson Kohlmeier (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patrick's) of the University of Michigan women's cross country team has been recognized for the third time this season -- and second time in three weeks -- as the Big Ten Conference's Runner of the Week. She earned her third award Tuesday (Oct. 18) after leading the Wolverines to a first-place finish in the White division at NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday (Oct. 15) in Terre Haute, Ind.

Michigan won the 34-team White division at Pre-Nationals with a strong overall performance. In addition to Kohlmeier's fourth-place finish, the Wolverines took individual places 19 through 22 on the strength of the pack of senior Rebecca Walter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves), redshirt freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey), fifth-year senior Ana Gjesdal (LaCrescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) and junior/sophomore Erin Webster (Dearborn, Mich./Divine Child).
This is the third time Kohlmeier earned Big Ten Runner of the Week this season. She won it outright on Oct. 4 after finishing third at the Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 30) and shared the Sept. 13 award with Minnesota's Lauren Williams after finishing first at the Great Meadows Invitational (Sept. 10). Kohlmeier led U-M to the team title each week.
This marks the first time a Big Ten runner has captured three weekly honors in a single season since both Michigan State's Michelle Carson and Penn State's Molly Landreth accomplished the feat in 2003.
The No. 3-ranked Wolverines will run in the EMU Classic at 4 p.m. Friday (Oct. 21) at Buhr Park in Ann Arbor.
