BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team kicked off its 2004-05 campaign on Belleville Lake on Sunday (Sept. 19) with exercises that included both Michigan State and Eastern Michigan. Ten total races were conducted with each one lasting a pre-determined five minutes. Also, each flight had stroke-rate limits of 26 strokes per minute. Finishes following each sprint were not tracked as there was no scoring involved.
The ten races were split into two groups. In the first grouping, flight "A", Michigan, MSU and EMU each had two eights compete. The group rowed five races.
The second group, flight "B", consisted of four eights. The Wolverines had two crews while the Spartans and Eagles had one apiece. They also competed in five races.

Head Coach Mark Rothstein
On the benefits of today's racing ... "It's a starting point. It's good to get out, see some competition and see some boats from other schools. It's a chance to line up and see where we are. I was really impressed with Michigan State. They definitely were the better crew today. But we're excited about our team and excited to get back."
