SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team was honored as a 2004 All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Monday (July 26). In addition, graduated senior Kim Plaushines (2000-04) and sophomore-to-be Elizabeth Exon (Irvine, Calif./Woodridge HS) were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. Head coach Bitsy Ritt's U-M squad was one of 83 NCAA Division I women's programs that earned the distinction for the 2003-04 academic year. In order to earn an ITA Scholar-Athlete nomination, a student-athlete must attain a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
Plaushines, who graduated with a sport management degree from the Division of Kinesiology this past spring, finished her four-year career at Michigan with an overall singles record of 48-34 and a doubles mark of 72-59. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference award winner.
Exon, who is enrolled in the College of Science, Literature and the Arts, collected a team-high 27-13 overall singles record during her freshman campaign. With an 18-5 regional record last season, Exon was honored as the ITA Midwest Rookie of the Year.
