Broderick, Former Wolverines Advance in USGA Events

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former University of Michigan women's golfers Kim Benedict (2000-03), Cortney Reno (1999-2002) and LeAnna Wicks (1999-2002) will play in U.S. Women's Open sectional qualifiers next week after moving on from local qualifiers in May.
Benedict advanced in the local qualifier May 17 at the Imperial Golf Club in Naples, Fla., after carding a 76. Reno and Wicks qualified May 17 at Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga. Reno carded a 75, and Wicks had a 76.
The next step for the former Wolverines is the sectional qualifiers on Monday (June 14). Wicks will be competing at the Country Club at Heathrow in Heathrow, Fla., while Benedict and Reno will play locally at Knollwood Country Club in West Bloomfield, Mich. The 2004 U.S. Women's Open will be July 1-4 at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass.
In addition, current Wolverine Brianna Broderick (Richmond, Mo./Richmond HS), a freshman on the 2003-04 squad, has qualified for the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. Broderick dominated the field at her sectional qualifier May 25 at St. Andrews Golf Club in Overland Park, Kan. She fired a 74, eight stroke better than the runner-up.
The 2004 Women's Amateur Public Links championship will be June 22-27, at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) in Williamsburg, Va.
