ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Michigan's doubles team of junior Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) and freshman Kara Delicata (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich Secondary) battled to three sets against Marshall's Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh but fell short against the Thundering Herd pair, losing 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the round of 16 at the NCAA Women's Tennis Indiviudal Championships on Wednesday (May 26) at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Wolverines rallied after a lopsided first-set loss, winning the last three games in the second frame to knot the score at one set apiece. DaCosta and Delicata built a 4-2 advantage in the deciding frame but could not put the match away, losing four consecutive games as the Marshall pair claimed the third set and the match.
With the loss, DaCosta and Delicata were eliminated from the doubles portion of the tournament. The U-M pair wrapped up a successful season as the Wolverines' top doubles team, recording a 15-10 overall mark, including a 14-9 record in dual meets. They were only the fourth Wolverine doubles pairing selected to the NCAA Individual Championships in the program's 30-year history and became the first U-M twosome to advance out of the first round.
