Boyle Garners Second Big Ten Weekly Honor of Year

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore pole vaulter Elizabeth Boyle (Northbrook, Ill./New Trier HS) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week for her record-setting performance at the Len Paddock Invitational, the league office announced this afternoon (Monday, May 10). It marks her second weekly honor of the year (April 6).

Boyle's old mark was set when she became the first Wolverine in school history to break the 13-foot barrier in the event as she cleared 13-3 1/2 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational (April 3). In terms of the Ferry Field record, Boyle bested former Eastern Michigan Eagle Hanna Palamaa's 2002 mark of 12-6 by a whole foot.
Boyle will lead the two-time defending champion Wolverines into West Lafayette, Ind., this Friday through Sunday (May 14-16) for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. As the No. 1 seed in the pole vault. Boyle will take the runway Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. EST/CDT.
