HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team sent nine Wolverines to the two-day non-scoring Hillsdale Relays at the Ken Herrick Outdoor Track. Leading the way for the Wolverines was freshman Jackie Gaydos (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park HS), who finished second in the 800-meter run.
Gaydos finished the two lap race with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 2:09.42. The time was a personal-best for the freshman mid-distance runner, as her previous collegiate record was 2:14.16 ran at the South Florida Invitational (April 3).
Following Gaydos in the 800-meter run was senior/junior Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS), who crossed the finish line fifth with a mark of 2:11.23. The time was a persona-best for Parker. Her previous best in the event was a clocking of 2:13.26 ran during the 2003 indoor season at the Red Simmons Invitational (1/26/03).
Adding a top five performance on the track was sophomore Lesley Jurasek (Concord, Mich./Albion HS) in the 10,000-meter run and junior/sophomore Chelsea Homan (Cincinnati, Mich./Anderson HS) in the 1,500-meter run.
Jurasek finished fourth in the longest NCAA race during the track season, as she posted a time of 37:21.08. In the 1,500, Homan posted a fifth-place showing with a season-best clocking of 4:38.68.
In the throwing circle, freshman Bridgette Maynard (Madison, Mich./Bishop Folley HS) added a fourth place finish in the discus when she marked a personal-best 149-11. Maynard's previous-best discus toss was 144-7 set last weekend at the Eastern Michigan Twilight (April 17).
Sophomore Beth Vinckier (Yale, Mich./Yale HS) and senior/junior Annessa Schnur (Butler, Pa./Butler HS) placed sixth and eighth in the heptathlon, respectively. Vinckier earned the sixth spot in the multi-event competition with a score of 4,421 points, while Schnur was eighth with 4,151 points.
The Wolverines will again be in two different time zones, as the Maize and Blue will be represented at the Stanford Twilight (May 1) and at the Jesse Owens Classic (April 30-May 1) next weekend. It will be the last weekend of track and field action before Michigan's lone home meet of the outdoor season; the Len Paddock Invitational.
