Gallo, Stephenson, Parker Lead U-M at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team garnered six NCAA Regional qualifying marks at the three-day, non-scoring Mt. SAC Relays held Friday through Sunday (April 16-18) in Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Headlining the efforts for the Maize and Blue were javelin thrower Lindsey Stephenson (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg HS), 1,500-meter runner Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS), steeplechasers Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stephenson HS) and Ana Gjesdal (LaCresenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS), Melissa Bickett (Akron, Ohio/Revere HS) and the 4x400-meter relay, who performed better than the NCAA Regional qualifying standard for their respective events.
Stephenson turned in the highest finish in an event over the three days of work at the Mt. SAC Relays. The graduate/senior placed runner-up in the javelin throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 141-2 Friday evening.
On the same evening, Parker and Gjesdal became the first pair of Wolverines to run the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the same meet, and both finished in the top 10. Parker was the first U-M runner to cross the finish line as she posted a time of 10:42.25 for fifth place in the event. Close on her heels, Gjesdal clocked in with a time of 10:44.36 for eighth place. Both times were under the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 10:57.18.
Michigan's other NCAA Regional qualifying performance was Gallo in the 1,500-meter run, as she finished third in a season-best 4:18.15 Saturday afternoon. Gallo's time bettered her previous season best of 4:23.87 ran at the South Florida Invitational (April 3).
The Wolverines will be in two different places for the second consecutive week as a few Maize and Bluers will be in Philadelphia, Pa., for the Penn Relays, while a majority of the team will head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays. Competition will run on Thursday through Saturday (April 22-24) at both venues.
