Wolverines Dominate Singles Play, Shut Out Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team swept the doubles competition and won the five singles matches that were played (Marquette forfeited at No. 6) to roll to a 7-0 shutout at Marquette on Saturday (March 20).
U-M continued its dominant doubles play in dual-meet competition, gaining the early advantage by sweeping the three matches to earn the doubles point. Senior Kim Plaushines (Oconowomoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) and sophomore Debra Streifler (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park HS) extended their winning streak to 12 matches with a 8-5 decision over the Golden Eagles' Genivieve Charron and Dominika Dabrowski at the No. 5 position. Senior Kavitha Tipirneni (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby HS) improved her season dual-meet record to 9-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Callan Smith at the No. 3 spot.
The Wolverines also dominated on the singles side, winning each match in straight sets and collectively dropping just eight games in the five matches. Senior Chrissie Nolan (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South HS) and freshman Kara Delicata (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich Secondary) recorded perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
The Wolverines will kick off the conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday (March 23) when they face intrastate rival Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. The dual meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
