Vanderkaay Wins Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced today (Tuesday, Dec. 7) that University of Michigan junior Peter Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) has been named the Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week for his performance at the Texas Invitational. It marks Vanderkaay's seventh career weekly award and the first of the 2004-05 season.

In addition, Vanderkaay set a personal record in the 100-yard freestyle (44.34) and was a member of five relay teams, including the first-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad that posted an NCAA automatic time of 6:24.88.
Vanderkaay earned a pair of Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards as a freshman in 2002-03 and picked up four citations as a sophomore last season. He was also named the Big Ten co-Swimmer of the Year in 2004.
After three weeks off, the Wolverines will head to California for their winter training. Michigan will square off with Southern Cal and Nova Aquatics in an exhibition meet before resuming intercollegiate competition with a meet at Stanford on Jan. 7 in Palo Alto, Calif.
