Finley Named to Academic All-America Second Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior punter Adam Finley (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) of the University of Michigan football team was been named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team announced today (Wednesday, Dec. 1) by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA). Finley is a biomedical engineering major and has achieved an overall GPA of 3.41 in nine semesters of work.

Finley is in the midst of a strong senior season for the Wolverines, listing third in the Big Ten and 20th nationally in punting average. He has punted 59 times for 2,541 yards, with a 43.1-yard per punt average. He has 14 punts of 50 or more yards, including a career-long 68-yarder vs. Michigan State (Oct. 30). He has also knocked 16 punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line this year.
A three-time Ray Guy Award candidate, Finley has 185 career punts for 7,743 yards (41.9 avg.), with 30 boots of 50 yards or more and 52 punts dropped inside the opposition's 20-yard line. He is third in Michigan history in career punts, fourth in yardage and second in punting average.
Finley is the first Academic All-American for the Wolverines since nose tackle Rob Renes earned first-team honors in 1999 after collecting a second-team nod during the 1998 season.
