Bertin Makes Verizon Academic All-District Second Team

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan junior/sophomore Ryan Bertin (Broadview Heights, Ohio/St. Edward HS), the 2003 157-pound NCAA wrestling champion, was named to the 2003 Verizon University Division Men's At-Large Academic All-District IV second team, announced Thursday (May 22). The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.

Bertin is Michigan's 18th NCAA wrestling champion and only the third Wolverine sophomore to earn such distinction. Bertin garnered All-America status for the second consecutive year as well as earning repeat Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA All-Academic first team honors.
To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Men's At-Large team to be announced June 10.
