Perry Wins Walker Award as Nation's Top Running Back

ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Michigan senior tailback Chris Perry (Advance, N.C./Fork Union Military, Va.) became the first Wolverine to win the Doak Walker Award, picking up the honor as the nation's top running back at the ESPN College Football Awards Show on Thursday night (Dec. 11).

Perry edged out Kansas State's Darren Sproles and Virginia Tech's Kevin Jones for the prestigious Doak Walker Award. The only other Wolverines named finalists for the Doak Walker Award were Jon Vaughn (1990), Tshimanga Biakabutuka (1995) and Anthony Thomas (2000).
Perry becomes the first Wolverine to win an award at the ESPN College Football Award Show presented by Home Depot. He will officially be presented at the 2003 Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet in Dallas on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004.
