Wolverines Travel to Milwaukee
The University of Michigan women's tennis team (5-6, 1-3 Big Ten) travels to Milwaukee, Wis., for a pair of non-conference matches this weekend. The Wolverines face Marquette Saturday (March 23, noon CST) and follows up with a neutral-site match against Tulane Sunday (March 24, 11 a.m. CST). Both matches will be played at the Helfaer Tennis Center on the campus of Marquette University.
Michigan Against Marquette
The Wolverines and Golden Eagles will hit the hardcourt against each other for the eighth time. Michigan holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series, after claiming a 6-1 victory last season in Milwaukee. The Wolverines have a 2-1 record in Milwaukee against the Golden Eagles, including an 8-1 victory in the first-ever match between the two schools, during the 1985-86 season. Marquette won its only match in the series during the 1998-99 season, a 7-2 match in Milwaukee.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Wolverines and Green Wave.
Duprez Downing Opposition
Junior Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach HS) enters the trip to Milwaukee playing her best tennis of the season. Duprez registered a 4-0 record last weekend, posting victories against Wisconsin's Katie Dougherty (6-2, 6-1) and Minnesota's Kandis Batiste (6-2, 6-0) at No. 5 singles and registering two wins with sophomore Kim Plaushines (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) at No. 2 doubles. Duprez has won three straight singles matches and is tied for the team lead in overall singles victories (12-7) and regional wins (9-5) while topping the squad in dual match wins (7-4). She has compiled a 2-2 dual match record in Big Ten Conference action.
Musgrove Approaches 50th Singles Win
Junior Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) heads into this week three victories shy of her 50th career singles win. Musgrove has compiled a 12-7 singles record this season to raise her career mark to an impressive 47-26. She is tied for the team lead in overall wins and regional victories while compiling a 5-4 record at the No. 6 singles slot. Musgrove split a pair of matches last weekend, losing in a third-set tie breaker to Wisconsin's Lindsey Martin [6-4, 4-6, 7-6(3)] and defeating Minnesota's Cici Anderson in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-0. Musgrove is also three wins shy of her third consecutive season with 15-plus singles wins.
Rutherford Paces Wolverines with 25 Wins
Freshman Leanne Rutherford (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) is tied for the team lead in both singles and doubles victories this season, posting 12 wins individually and teaming with fellow freshman Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) to post a 13-8 doubles record. Rutherford and DaCosta have posted a 6-5 dual match mark at No. 1, including a 2-2 Big Ten Conference mark, and are 11-4 against regional opponents. In singles action, Rutherford has collected a 12-7 overall record and is 6-5 in dual match action. She gained her first career conference win against Minnesota's Kelly Perry, tallying a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 (March 17). Rutherford has a 1-3 Big Ten mark and is 7-7 against regional foes.
DaCosta Reaches 10-Win Plateau
Michelle DaCosta reached the 10-win plateau last weekend, beating Minnesota's Michaela Havelkova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 (March 17). DaCosta has moved from the No. 3 slot in the singles lineup to No. 2, posting a 3-1 mark at the higher spot. She has compiled a 10-9 overall singles record and is 6-5 in dual match action (2-2 in conference).
Next Week
The Wolverines start with a mid-week match against in-state rival and Big Ten Conference foe Michigan State Thursday (March 28, 6 p.m.) at the MSU Tennis Facility. Michigan travels south to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a matchup with Wake Forest on Easter Sunday (March 31, noon) at the Leighton Tennis Center.
