U-M Head Coach Sue Guevara
On the game overall ... "This was just a finals week game. I say that because we have been working on cutting down our turnovers and we had been, but today we were just going a little bit too fast at times. Let's give Seton Hall credit because their defense was aggressive and all over us. This is where we just need to get somebody out there to slow things down. There was one point with Tabitha Pool in the second half where she really wanted to go and her circus shot went in. I was just yelling slow down and then heaven help us it went in. Then the timeout came and we did settle down. Stephanie Gandy had a huge game for us. She really stepped up and maintained her composure. This team just has different people stepping up for us every game. This was a good finish for us before the break. We have one game left and finals are going to be done this week and we will all be happy."
On the team's defensive play ... "I have been kind of crabby the last couple practices about our defense. Before the game I had the kids write on the board what they promised to do today and a couple of them wrote, 'Jump to the ball.' We have been working on that and anticipating passes which you can see because they shot .211 in the first half. That is pretty good defense. I credit our kids because we knew who their shooters were and we did well on the defensive glass."
On Stephanie Gandy's play today ... "For Gandy this was her second game where she was really attacking the basket. Sometimes when we have the bigger lineup in and we are running a set offense, she is so concerned about running the play that she doesn't just play the game. She has a great first step and has been doing a better job with her shot selection."
U-M Junior Guard Stephanie Gandy
On the game ... "It was sloppy at first and we got composed in the second half to bring it together and pull out the win. It wasn't the prettiest, but we got together in the second half and decided to just play."
On handling Seton Hall's fullcourt press ... "We have seen a presses all year long, but at the beginning we got a little ragged. Our young backcourt just had to settle down and when we did that we got easy fast-break points. It was just a matter of taking our time."
U-M Sophomore Forward Tabitha Pool
On looking to penetrate more on offense ... "We just penetrated a lot like we did against Oakland and Xavier. We just tried to penetrate when it was open."
On handling the Seton Hall press ... "At times we go fast and we just need to settle down and use pass fakes and other things to break the press. We just didn't do that early and that was our problem."
