The University of Michigan men's soccer team (8-6-2, 3-3 Big Ten) concludes the regular season with a final home match against Oakland this Sunday (Nov. 9) at 1 p.m. on the U-M Soccer Field. This Saturday's game between the Wolverines and Oakland was rescheduled from Sept. 20 when heavy rain and lighting forced the postponement of the game. Before the match the Wolverines will honor their lone senior, Robert Turpin (Pontiac, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS), as it will be Senior Day for the Maize and Blue.

Michigan vs. Oakland

Last Week Recap: Extra Time Needed
The Wolverines played a pair of overtime matches last week, posting a record of 1-1. Last Sunday (Nov. 3) U-M moved into a tie for second place in the Big Ten Conference with a 1-0 overtime victory over Ohio State at the U-M Soccer Field. Kevin Robinson (Caro, Mich./Faith Baptist HS) tallied the game-winner at 97:53 when he flipped the ball over the goalkeeper as the two raced for the ball just inside the Buckeyes' penalty area. Freshman goalkeeper Peter Dzubay (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview HS) recorded his third straight conference win with three saves en route to his second career clean slate.
Dzubay returned to the pipes Tuesday (Nov. 5) at Detroit and made seven saves to help the Wolverines to a 1-1 tie in 100 minutes of action. Junior transfer Jrgen Schmieder (Regensburg, Bavaria/Stifland Gymnasium) tallied the lone Michigan goal of the match at 15:16 when he struck the ball out of mid-air to beat the keeper inside the left post. The two teams played only one overtime period due to darkness.
Big Ten Standings
Michigan solidified a tie for second place in the Big Ten with a 1-0 overtime win against Ohio State last Sunday (Nov. 3). With one game left in Big Ten play, four teams (Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin) are tied for second place in the conference with 3-3 records. Ohio State has a chance to join those four teams if it can defeat Northwestern on Sunday (Nov. 10) in Evanston, Ill. If Northwestern wins or if Ohio State wins by four goals or less, Michigan will head into the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 14-17) as the No. 2 seed, based on the second tiebreaker (goal differential in conference play).

Here's to you, Mr. Robinson
Junior forward Kevin Robinson tallied three points last week, contributing to each of the Wolverines' goals. Robinson netted his second game-winning goal of the season when he lifted the ball over Ohio State's goalkeeper as the two raced for the ball just inside the Buckeye penalty area in Michigan's 1-0 overtime victory (Nov. 3). The goal came 7:53 seconds into the extra frame and assured Michigan a tie for second place in the Big Ten standings heading into the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 14-17). Against Detroit (Nov. 5) Robinson dished out his fourth assist of the season to help Michigan to a 1-1 tie with Titans.
The Ultimate Scoring Machine
Junior transfer Jrgen Schmieder tallied his seventh goal of the season when he beat Detroit's keeper inside the left post at 15:16 to give the Wolverines a 1-0 advantage. Schmieder had just checked into the game and scored on his first touch of the game. In 10 games this season the Bavarian junior has 14 points on seven goals, including two hat tricks against IUPUI (Sept. 6) and Evansville (Sept. 27).
Helping Hand
Mychal Turpin (Pontiac, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS) continued to help the Michigan offense last week with the game-winning overtime assist to Kevin Robinson to beat Ohio State 1-0 at 97:53. Turpin has recorded a Michigan-record 25 points this season on 10 goals and five assists.
How Hot is This
