McCullough, Kelemen Collect Big Ten Weekly Honors

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore Amy McCullough (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS) and junior Tealin Kelemen (Riverton, N.J./Moorestown Friends School) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team have been selected for Big Ten Conference weekly awards. McCullough was named co-Swimmer of the Week with Wisconsin sophomore Carly Piper, while Kelemen earned her second Diver of the Week honor this season for their efforts in the Wolverines' third-place finish last weekend (Nov. 21-23) at the Nike Cup.

McCullough rounded out her weekend with three more NCAA consideration times, finishing third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:42.19), second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.89) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.66). McCullough had the fastest prelim mark in the 500 free at 4:47.27.
Kelemen took home her second Diver of the Week honor of the season with two individual titles at the Nike Cup to extend her streak to five wins this season in six total events. Kelemen placed first in the three-meter competition with an NCAA zone diving qualifying score of 532.85, her career best for a championship meet. Kelemen also took first in the one-meter competition with her score of 270.10.
The Maize and Blue is not scheduled to compete again until Jan. 3, 2003, when it races at the Rainbow Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, as part of its annual winter training trip. However, several members of the Wolverines squad will participate at the U.S. Open Dec. 5-7 in Minneapolis, Minn.
