The Falcons jumped out to an early lead 6:43 into the game when sophomore forward Roger Leonard put the puck into an empty net off a pass from freshman forward Steve Brudzewski, who fed it across the goal mouth before senior goaltender Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) could recover.
The Wolverines responded with the game's next two goals to take their first lead of the weekend. U-M tied the score 13:28 into the first period on the first of two individual-effort goals by Komisarek. Komisarek picked the puck up in the Wolverines' zone, skated into the Falcons' zone and put a shot on net, which was saved by BGSU netminder Tyler Masters. Komisarek collected the rebound and fired it from a near-impossible angle on the right side before Masters could correct himself.
Michigan took the lead 5:10 into the second stanza with one second remaining in a two-man advantange. With the Wolverines established in the BGSU zone, freshman forward Michael Woodford (Westford, Mass.) found freshman forward Eric Nystrom (Syosset, N.Y.) all alone in the slot, and Nystrom fired a shot over the left shoulder of Masters.
Less than two minutes later, Bowling Green tied the score at 2-2 when sophomore D'Arcy McConvey let a quick snapshot go over Blackburn's left shoulder. Senior forward Scott Hewson kept the play alive for the Falcons after a shot on goal, winning a battle in the right corner for the rebound and chipping it out to senior forward Greg Day, who backhanded a pass from behind the net to McConvey on the right side of the goal mouth for the score.
Komisarek, who also copped an assist on the Wolverines' second tally, capped the scoring in a similar fashion to his first goal, taking the puck alone from the red line and firing a shot from the slot that beat Masters on his stick side with less than three and a half minutes left in the game.
Masters stopped 22 shots while Blackburn made 21 saves as the Wolverines outshot the Falcons by a 25-23 margin. Michigan converted one of its four power-play chances while holding the Falcons scoreless on both of their opportunities.
Michigan will skate away from Yost Ice Arena for its next two games, taking on Lake Superior State in a two-game CCHA series. The Wolverines will be in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on Thursday (Jan. 31) for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff with the Lakers before closing out the series on Saturday (Feb. 2) at 7:35 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

N O T E S
Michigan snapped a three-game winless streak, its longest of the season, with the win tonight. In addition, the Wolverines halted a three-game winless skid at Yost Ice Arena, moving to the .500 mark. U-M is 5-5-2 at home this season.
Mike Komisarek is Michigan's leading scorer at home this season, posting 7-7-14 of his 8-10-18. Tonight's game marked his third three-point performance at home and his third multi-goal game of the year. In addition, Komisarek surpassed his point total from 40 games a year ago (4-12-16).
Four of Michigan's five goals during the weekend were scored by defensemen.
Eric Nystrom netted his ninth goal of the year, moving into the goal-scoring lead among freshmen.
Michigan has successfully killed 37 of its opponents' last 38 power plays, including 36 straight.
Q U O T E S
Head Coach Red Berenson
On the game ... "I don't think we were lucky to win this game. We had a better chance to win this because we worked harder. To a man, we played harder than we played last night. We played together. We didn't give up the two-on-ones and the breakaways like last night. We played better defensively and offensively. As a coach you can't always ask your team to play well but you can insist they play hard. We didn't have the effort last night but tonight it was there and we got the results."
On the physicality of the game ... "We played more physically last night. I can't tell you we are the most physical team in the league but we have been more physical in the games we won. We had more hits tonight than last night from players like (Andy) Burnes, (Eric) Nystrom, (Jason) Ryznar, (Mike) Komisarek. These guys were hitting. But I can't tell you the last time that we were that physical."
On Mike Komisarek ... "He is a big player for us, and I can tell you last night he didn't feel fulfilled with his game. The kid has a dynamite shot. When he shoots, he shoots like a man. The first goal he got his own rebound and he got the goal before the goalie could move. On the second goal he walked in the slot, I don't think anyone could have stopped that."
On U-M's defense scoring ... "I can't tell you it's a planned thing. The forwards are working hard. We played a lot of the game down low, in their end, but there wasn't much there. But the other thing is we are playing without two important players. It's a big hole. We have seven freshman fowards and two on defense. That's a lot of young players without (Mike) Cammelleri or (Jed) Ortmeyer to lead them. The (Mark) Minks, the (Jay) Vanciks, the upperclassmen, they played much stronger tonight."
On Michigan's shot selection ... "We are trying to get our defensemen shots. Last night we were getting the puck back to the 'D' but the 'D' kept dumping it back into the corner. Tonight we got more shots back there. I can't tell you it was by design but we just want to get shots on this goaltender. He's a good goalie and we wanted to make some rebounds available."
On Bowling Green ... "Bowling Green is like everyone else in this league -- they are as good as anybody. I guess they have had a little trouble scoring but they play hard, they play physical. I like the way they play, they are well coached. They are doing everything else, they just aren't putting the puck in the net. Last night they got the goals they needed. If they play like that every night they are a good hockey team and don't deserve to be in 11th place."
Sophomore Defenseman Mike Komisarek
On playing at Yost Ice Arena and his game-winning goal ... "There is something about Yost. I've never played in a place with so much energy. On my goal, the puck came out and Johnny (Shouneyia) passed it to me. I just tried to get it on net. I was going one way and the goalie was going another and luckily it went in."
On leadership without Mike Cammelleri and Jed Ortmeyer ... "It's not one guy that determines the whole game. Each guy is not going to have a good game each night so when guys like Cammelleri and Ortmeyer are out we expect each guy to add a little to his game."
Senior Goaltender Josh Blackburn
On the final period and its meaning on the rest of the season ... "We knew going into this game what it meant for our entire season -- which way were we going to go Last night we decided not to show up. Tonight we worked hard and decided to show up. That made the difference in the game tonight."
