Wolverines Impressive at William & Mary Tribe Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team started the new year in impressive fashion, posting a 12-4 record in singles competition at the Tribe Classic hosted by the College of William & Mary on Friday through Sunday (Jan. 11-13). The Wolverines, who open their dual match season Jan. 19 (10 a.m.) against Western Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center, also compiled a 4-5 doubles mark at the tournament.
Freshman Leanne Rutherford (Calgary, Alberta/National Sports School) paced the Wolverines with a 3-0 record, tallying each of her wins in a different flight. Junior Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) and sophomore Kim Plaushines (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) contributed 2-0 marks.
Junior Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./West Hampton Beach HS) netted a 6-4, 6-4 win over William & Mary's Kari Olsen Sunday afternoon in her only singles action. Freshman Michelle DaCosta (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne HS) also won two of her three matches in singles competition.
