Diaz-Luong scored a 52.150 to conclude the two-day competition with a score of 103.975, good for eighth place. Contributing to his scores were a tie for second place on the parallel bars (9.100) and a sixth-place finish on the horizontal bar (8.600).
Zimmerman scored a 50.700 for a two-day total of 102.500 to finish ninth. He garnered sixth place on the parallel bars (8.750) and ninth place on the floor exercise (8.750).
Senior Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) had to pull out of the competition after the second rotation due to a shoulder injury. Vetere was in 11th place going into the final day of competition.
The fourth Wolverine competing was senior Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS), who only competed on the vault (8.800) due to an injury suffered early in the year. He was petitioned onto the National Team.
By finishing in eighth place Diaz-Luong earned himself a spot on the U.S. squad which will compete at the 2001 Pan-Am Games on Sept. 4 in Cancun, Mexico. Due to the injury to Vetere, Diaz-Luong also was named to the World University Games team headed to Beijing, China, later this month.
