He also finished tied for second on the parallel bars (8.650) and sixth on the floor exercise (8.700) and the still rings (8.850). Overall he took second among all of the gymnast competing, finishing behind 2000 Olympic team member Stephen McCain.
Also competing for the Wolverines was sophomore All-American Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS). He finished the all-around with a 50.200, good for sixth place among the 51 competitors. Helping him to qualify for the U.S. Gymnastics Championships was a tie for third-place finish on the parallel bars (8.650).
Joining Diaz-Luong and Zimmerman at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships will be two fellow Wolverines -- senior Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS) and Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) -- who had both already qualified for the competition.
