Michigan opened the season with wins over Virginia and North Carolina (March 31). The first varsity eight's time of 6:27.9 against the Tar Heels was the fastest season-opening time by a Michigan boat in the five-year history of the program. For its efforts, the first varsity eight was named the Big Ten Conference Boat of the Week (March 28).
The Wolverines host the Big Ten Women's Rowing Championships on April 28. Of the seven schools in the conference which support rowing at the varsity level, five are ranked among the top 20 this week. In addition to Michigan in the fourth spot, Ohio State is tied for seventh, Iowa is 15th, Michigan State is 16th and Wisconsin is 17th. Indiana and Minnesota are not ranked.
This Saturday (April 7), the Wolverines head to East Lansing, Mich., to face 16th-ranked Michigan State at 10 a.m. on Lake Ovid in Sleepy Hollow State Park.
