COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- University of Michigan junior Tim Siciliano (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos HS) won his third straight NCAA 400-yard individual medley title on Friday (March 23) in second-day action at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Texas A&M. The ninth-ranked Wolverines scored 64 points to raise their meet total to 111 but dropped a spot to 11th in the team standings.
Siciliano clocked in at 3:40.77 to edge Southern Cal's Erik Vendt (3:40.98) and become just the fourth person to win three straight NCAA 400 IM titles. Siciliano's pool-record swim makes him the first Wolverine to win three consecutive NCAA titles in an event since 1995.
Dan Ketchum (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) earned his second All-America award in as many days with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.46), and U-M's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Ketchum, Chris Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS), Garrett Mangieri (Closter, N.J./Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) and Siciliano earned All-America honors with a third-place finish (6:25.92).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Jordan Watland (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka), Scott Werner (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI HS), Ketchum and Mangieri finished in 17th place (1:30.61), and freshman diver Jason Coben (Newtown Square, Pa./Maple Newtown HS) placed 20th (488.50) on the three-meter springboard.
