Minnesota Vaults Past Michigan in Dual Competition

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The third-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team fell to No. 8 University of Minnesota 217.175-216.175 on Saturday (Feb. 24) at the Sports Pavilion. The Wolverines defeated the Golden Gophers in half the six events (pommel horse, still rings, high bar), but Minnesota rode a 1.500-point advantage on the vault (37.500-36.000) to the overall victory.
The Wolverines were led by junior Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) and sophomore Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS). Vetere garnered first-place honors on the still rings (9.550) and second place on the pommel horse (9.200) and horizontal bar (9.175). Zimmerman took home first place on parallel bars (9.050) and horizontal bar (9.200) and second place in the all-around with a 54.400.
Also contributing for the Wolverines were Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS), who finished second on the parallel bars (8.900) and third on the still rings (9.175), and Jamie Hertza (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield HS), who placed third on the pommel horse (9.150) and fourth on the floor exercise (8.950). Conan Parzuchowski (Northville, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS) tied for third on the still rings with a 9.175.
The Wolverines return to action on Saturday (March 3) when they travel to Madrid, Spain, to compete against the Portugal and Spain national teams.
