Three Wolverines Named to All-Big Ten Second Team

MADISON, Wis. -- Three members of the University of Michigan men's soccer team were among the All-Big Ten Conference honorees when the awards were announced Thursday (Nov. 8).
Sophomore defender Kevin Taylor (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Preparatory), freshman forward Mychal Turpin (Pontiac, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit HS) and freshman midfielder Knox Cameron (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman HS) received All-Big Ten second team honors for their performances in 2001.
The All-Big Ten awards are the first in the program's two-year varsity history.
Indiana's Pat Noonan was named Big Ten Player of the Year, making him the fifth straight Hoosier to receive Athlete of the Year accolades, while Indiana's Mike Ambersley and Penn State's Chad Severs shared Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. Indiana head coach Jerry Yeagley was awarded his sixth Big Ten Coach of the Year award.
Michigan (10-6-1), which finished in a three-way tie for third in the Big Ten regular-season standings (3-3), picked up its first postseason victory Thursday (Nov. 8) with a 1-0 win over host Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship first round. The Wolverines will face No. 4-ranked Indiana in the semifinals Friday at 2:30 p.m. CST.
