FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- University of Michigan senior Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.), a goaltender on the Wolverines ice hockey team, has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today (Monday, Nov. 5).
Blackburn, the first U-M player to receive an honor from the league this season, blocked 62 of 63 shots (.984 saves percentage) in a weekend sweep at Alaska Fairbanks, including a season-high 36 stops in a 4-0 win over the Nanooks on Saturday (Nov. 3). Blackburn also notched his 10th career shutout in Saturday's win, moving him to within one blanking of Marty Turco's U-M career record 11, set from 1994-97.
