Walker Continues Reception Brilliance
Senior wide receiver Marquise Walker (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger HS) had another big game for the Wolverines, catching six passes for 72 yards, with five of those receptions converting third downs. Walker, who made a spectacular touchdown grab on a six-yard pass from John Navarre (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy HS), has caught at least one touchdown pass in every game this year. Walker has a team-leading 49 receptions for 659 yards and seven touchdowns.
Foote Sets School TFL Record
Senior inside linebacker Larry Foote (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) set a Michigan single-game record for tackles for loss in the Iowa game. Foote recorded seven tackles for loss against the Hawkeyes for 26 yards, with three of those stops coming as sacks. Foote recorded five TFLs and three sacks in the first half of the game. Foote tied the previous school record earlier this season at Washington, tallying six TFLs and a then season-best 12 tackles.
Foote Has Career Day
In addition to setting school records for TFLs and sacks, Larry Foote set a career high with 15 tackles in the game. Foote has recorded four double-digit tackle games in his career, with his previous career high of 14 stops coming in back-to-back games against Michigan State and Northwestern last year. Foote leads the team with 51 tackles this season, including 21 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Brackins Has Big Game
Fifth-year senior inside linebacker Eric Brackins (Pigeon Forge, Tenn./Gatlinburg-Pittman HS) had his best game of the season for the Wolverines at Iowa. Brackins contributed a season-best 11 tackles and one forced fumble in his 40th career game for the Wolverines.
Navarre Continues Passing Consistency
Junior/sophomore quarterback John Navarre guided the Wolverines from behind in the victory over Iowa, completing 16-of-38 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Navarre tossed his first interception since the Washington game during the Wolverines' opening series, ending his streak at 129 passing attempts without an interception, and had another pass intercepted later in the game. Navarre has thrown for over 200 yards in six of the seven games this year and has at least one touchdown pass in every contest.
Punt Block Specialists
The Wolverines blocked punt by sophomore linebacker Zach Kaufman (Claremont, Calif./Claremont HS) that was recovered for a touchdown by redshirt freshman linebacker Roy Manning (Saginaw, Mich./Saginaw HS) was the third TD of the season for the special teams unit. It was also the first blocked punt for a touchdown by the Wolverines since Marquise Walker blocked and returned a punt 42 yards for a TD against Indiana last year (Oct. 14, 2000).
Scoreless First Quarter
For the fifth time this season, the Michigan defense kept the opposition off the scoreboard during the opening quarter. It was the second consecutive game that the Wolverines were held scoreless during the first quarter, after scoring points in the opening quarter during the first five games of the season.
U-M vs. Unranked Teams
With today's 32-26 victory against Iowa, Michigan improved to 4-0 this season against unranked teams. The Wolverines have compiled a 38-3 record against unranked opponents during head coach Lloyd Carr's seven-year tenure.
Wolverines Become Bowl Eligible
With today's victory at Iowa, the Wolverines have become eligible for postseason bowl action. Michigan recorded its sixth win of the season and remained unbeaten in Big Ten Conference action (4-0).
