Wolverines Sweep Falcons in Dual, Home Openers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis squad opened the dual match season with a 7-0 victory against Bowling Green tonight (Friday, Jan. 19) at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M jumped out to a 1-0 advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches, then continued the string with victories in all six singles contests.
The Wolverines have won all five home openers at the Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan has claimed victory in seven straight season openers and improved to 21-6 all-time in season openers.

No. 1 -- Chrissie Nolan (U-M) d. Meghan Rhodes, 6-2, 6-0
No. 2 -- Kavitha Tipirneni (U-M) d. Abby Bratton, 6-2, 6-3

No. 4 -- Jen Vaughn (U-M) d. Devon Bissinger, 6-3, 6-4
No. 5 -- Joanne Musgrove (U-M) d. Lisa Maloney, 6-3, 6-3
No. 6 -- Alison Sinclair (U-M) d. Tracy Howitt, 6-1, 6-1
Doubles
No. 1 -- Tipirneni/Vaughn (U-M) d. Bratton/Bissinger, 8-4
No. 2 -- Nolan/Sinclair (U-M) d. Wasilewski/Maloney, 9-8 (5)
No. 3 -- Fuzesi/Kim Plaushines (U-M) d. Rhodes/Gaby Coello, 9-7
N O T E S
-- Szandra Fuzesi and Kim Plaushines rallied from a 5-7 deficit to win their doubles match 9-7.
-- Chrissie Nolan won her team-leading 11th singles match (11-1). Nolan and Kavitha Tipirneni collected their first career dual match wins.
-- Jen Vaughn gained her 10th singles victory of the season (10-2).
