The meet will include 24 teams from throughout the country. Host Penn State and West Virginia are two of the stronger teams that will be included at the invitational.
Last Week
Led by individual winner Katie (Clifford) Jazwinski (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS), Michigan brought home the team title at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 9) in Oxford, Ohio. The 28 points recorded by the Wolverines was good enough for first place, ahead of runner-up Ball State (52).
First-Time Champion
Senior Katie Jazwinski's individual win at the Miami Invitational marked her first career individual win while at Michigan. Her previous highest finish was third at the Michigan Intercollegiate (Oct. 8, 1999) with a time of 18:51.1.
Not Far Behind
Senior Julie Froud (St. Marys, Ontario/St. Marys D.C.V.I.) finished second at the Miami Invitational in 18:04, and junior Katy Radkewich (Hudson, Ohio/Beaumont HS) came in fourth (18:10). The Wolverines had three of the top four spots in the meet.
Starting Out
Freshmen Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) and Anna Jones (Omaha, Neb./Marian HS) made their first career starts at the Miami Invitational. Gallo posted an 11th-place finish (18:44), while Jones came in 38th (19:45).
Strong Starts
The team win for Michigan at the Miami Invitational marked the fifth year in a row that Michigan has won its first scored meet of the season. Last year, the Wolverines opened with the Spiked Shoe Invitational, where they will look to defend this weekend.
Wolverines Ranked 16th in Preseason Poll
