Five Wolverines Qualify for U.S. Gymnastics Meet

Sophomore All-American Scott Vetere (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown HS) was already qualified to attend the U.S. Championships as he is a member of the current Senior Men's National Team. He competed against the other 14 pre-qualified gymnasts and finished in eighth place, with a score of 53.850. Contributing to this score was a third-place finish on the still rings (9.500).
Competing at the Senior Elite level and vying for the opportunity to fill the remaining 17 spots at the U.S. Championships were junior Justin Toman (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall HS), sophomores Daniel Diaz-Luong (Harrisburg, Penn./Bishop McDevitt HS) and Brad Kenna (Barberton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit HS), and freshman Kris Zimmerman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier HS).
Toman and Zimmerman placed second and third, respectively, among the 47 competitors. Toman finished with a score of 55.100, while Zimmerman garnered a 53.600. Diaz-Luong placed 11th with a total of 51.300 and Kenna finished 16th (50.350).
All Wolverine gymnasts performed well in the Senior Elite competition and took home high honors in individual events. Toman finished second on both the pommel horse (9.600) and still rings (9.350), while earning third-place marks on the vault (9.200). Zimmerman won the parallel bars event with a score of 9.800 and finished tied for second on the vault (9.250). Diaz-Luong placed second on both the parallel bars (9.600) and high bar (9.550), while Kenna tied for second on the vault (9.250).
