The Hoosiers began the match by taking a 1-0 advantage behind a pair of victories in doubles play. Indiana won matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, while Michigan senior co-captain Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) and junior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gymnazium) won at the No. 2 spot as Indiana retired from the match due to injury.
Needing four singles wins to claim victory in the match, the Wolverines could manage only three wins. Michigan received victories from senior co-captain Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS), junior Szandra Fuzesi and freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS). The Wolverines had opportunities to challenge for the victory but freshman Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach HS) and junior Alison Sinclair (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS) were unable to pull through in their tough, three-set matches.
Michigan returns to the court next Saturday, April 15, against Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. The match will begin at 11 a.m. CDT at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
