Wolverines Close Regular Season at VTC
The women's tennis team will close the regular-season schedule with a pair of home matches at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines host Penn State on Saturday (April 22, 11 a.m.) and follow with an Easter Sunday (April 23, noon) match against Ohio State. This weekend's matches will be played outdoors at the Varsity Tennis Center weather permitting.
Seniors Play Last Home Matches
This weekend's matches will be the final home matches for the Wolverines' three seniors -- Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS), Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) and Erryn Weggenman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS). All three players have made tremendous contributions to the Michigan women's tennis program during their four-year careers, with the most memorable being their play in helping claim the program's first Big Ten Conference title in 1997.
Big Ten Championship Looms Next Week in Ann Arbor
The 2000 Big Ten Conference Women's Tennis Championship will be held next week at the University of Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan hosts the conference tournament for the first time at the Varsity Tennis Center from Thursday, April 27, through Sunday, April 30. Admission is free.
Wolverines Against Buckeyes
Michigan has an impressive 24-9 edge in the all-time series against Ohio State, including victories in 11 of last 12 matches. The Buckeyes ended an 11-match losing streak to the Wolverines with a 4-3 victory in Columbus last year. Michigan has won seven straight matches in Ann Arbor and is 11-3 all-time against the Buckeyes at home.
Michigan vs. Penn State
This will be the 14th meeting between the two programs, with the Wolverines holding a commanding 11-2 edge all-time. Michigan has won the last nine matchups, including a close 4-3 match last year in State College, Pa. The Wolverines are a perfect 9-0 against the Nittany Lions under the direction of head coach Bitsy Ritt, with all nine matches being contested since Penn State joined the Big Ten Conference. U-M has a 4-1 record in matches contested in Ann Arbor and is 1-0 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Hart Nears 75th Singles Win
Senior co-captain Brooke Hart heads into the final week of the regular season looking to move closer to her 75th career singles victory. Hart has compiled a 71-57 career singles mark and needs just four victories to reach 75 wins. She lists tied for eighth all-time in career singles victories at Michigan with Tina Basle (1985-88) and needs just three wins to surpass Sora Moon (1995-98) for seventh place all-time. Hart leads the Wolverines this season in overall wins (21-10), winning percentage (.677), dual match wins (12-6 at No. 1 singles), Big Ten wins (6-2) and regional victories (14-6). She needs five victories to equal her career-high 26 wins (26-12) attained as a freshman during the 1996-97 season. Hart is listed No. 101 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national singles rankings released Wednesday, April 12.
Lund Eyes 80th Win
Senior co-captain Danielle Lund needs one singles victory in this weekend's matches to attain the 80th of her career. Lund won her 15th singles match of the season last weekend, beating Wisconsin's Vanessa Rauh in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-2). She has won six of her last eight matches and nine of her last 12 contests and leads the team in dual match winning percentage (.714). Lund has compiled a 10-4 dual match record at No. 2 this season and has a 15-8 overall singles record thus far. She lists fifth in career singles victories at Michigan with a 79-54 career record and needs three wins to tie Liz Cyganiak (1992-95) for fourth place and seven victories to reach a share of third place with Kalei Beamon (1990-93).

Duprez Evens Season Record
Freshman Jen Duprez (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach HS) heads into the Penn State and Ohio State matches with a 12-12 overall singles mark this season. Duprez evened her record with a pair of victories this past weekend, beating Wisconsin's Katie Dougherty (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) and Iowa's Erica Johnson (7-6, 6-2) at the No. 5 single spot. She has compiled a 7-7 dual match record (3-2 at No. 4 and 4-5 at No. 5) and is 3-4 in Big Ten dual match competition. Duprez is 9-8 overall in doubles action, teaming most recently with Brooke Hart at No. 1. Duprez and Hart have a 4-5 record together and are 4-3 in dual match action.
Musgrove Eyes 20 Wins
Freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) ranks second on the squad in both singles and doubles victories this season. Musgrove has a 17-12 singles record during her initial campaign and is 10-11 in doubles competition. She has posted a 10-8 dual match singles record (3-2 at No. 3 and 7-6 at No. 4) and is 4-4 in Big Ten Conference dual matches. Musgrove had her career-long four-match winning streak snapped this past weekend against Iowa's Megan Kearney, losing in a hard-fought three-set match (3-6, 6-4, 6-3). Musgrove started the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Wisconsin's Dena Baritot to extend the winning streak. She has an impressive 9-6 mark against regional opponents this year.
