Trexler to Represent Wolverines at Zone Diving Meet
Senior tri-captain Josh Trexler (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook HS) will represent the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team at the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet on Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Friday's action is a single session beginning at 11 a.m. CST, while Saturday will feature two sessions -- the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 4 p.m. The two-day competition features both men and women competitors in three events -- one-meter, three-meter and platform -- and serves as a qualifier for the NCAA Championships March 23-25 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Trexler Returns to NCAA Zone Meet
Josh Trexler will be competing in the NCAA Zone Meet for the second straight year. At the 1999 NCAA Diving Zone Meet at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., Trexler placed in the top five in each event, including a high of third on the one-meter board, and qualified for the NCAA Championships in all three events. Trexler's 1999 Zone results:

Trexler earned NCAA All-American Honorable Mention at the 1999 NCAA Championships by placing 14th in the three-meter diving with a score of 523.05. In the one-meter and platform events, he placed 18th (485.55) and 19th (395.35), respectively.
Trexler Ranks as U-M's Top Diver
Senior tri-captain Josh Trexler has been Michigan's top diver this year, putting up U-M's top scores in both the one- and three-meter diving. Both of his top scores are NCAA zone diving qualifying marks.

Trexler's Big Ten Championships Results
Josh Trexler helped Michigan to its 31st Big Ten Conference title by placing in the top five in each of the diving events at the 2000 Big Ten Championships, held Feb. 24-27 at Michigan's Canham Natatorium. Trexler placed fifth in the one-meter competition (498.80), fourth on the three-meter board (522.25) and third in the exhibition platform diving (412.95).
Trexler Named Diver of the Week Five Times in 1999-2000
Josh Trexler was selected as the Big Ten Conference Diver of the Week five times this season. His weekly selections:

Wolverines Capture Big Ten Conference Title
Michigan added another important accolade to its swimming and diving tradition by winning the 2000 Big Ten Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, held Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 24-26) in front of near-capacity crowds at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines finished with 682 team points in winning its first conference title since 1997. Michigan's first-place team finish gives the Wolverines an impressive 31 conference titles -- eight more than second-best Indiana -- in the 90-year history of the Big Ten Championships.
Canham Natatorium pool records were set in 11 of the 18 swimming events during the meet. Michigan set four pool records -- Chris Thompson (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg HS) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:20.31) and 1,650 freestyle (14:50.86), Tony Kurth (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales HS) in the 200 individual medley (1:47.26) and Tim Siciliano (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos HS) in the 400 IM (3:49.16). Kurth's and Siciliano's marks were set during prelims.
Urbanchek Named Big Ten Coach of the Year
After guiding his team to the Big Ten championship, Michigan head swimming coach Jon Urbanchek was named Big Ten Swimming Coach of the Year. This is the seventh time in his career at U-M that he has received the award. His previous honors were received for the 1987, '90, '91 (co), '93, '94 and '95 seasons.
Six Wolverines Among NCAA Qualifiers
Six Michigan swimmers have qualified for the NCAA Championships March 23-25 in Minneapolis, Minn., while two others are alternates. Senior Mike McWha (Windsor, Ontario/Kennedy Collegiate Institute), junior Chris Thompson, sophomore Tim Siciliano and freshman Tony Kurth each qualified in three events, while junior Scott Werner (Haymarket, Va./Paul VI HS) and sophomore Jeff Hopwood (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto HS) each qualified in two events. Siciliano is the defending national champion in the 400 IM.
Among the alternates are freshmen Garrett Mangieri (Closter, N.J./Mercersburh [Pa.] Academy), in the 200-meter freestyle, and Josh Hack (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS), in the 200 breaststroke.

Wolverines Ranked Eighth in CSCAA Poll
In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America Poll (3/9/00), the Michigan men's swimming and diving team is ranked eighth in the country. The next poll will be released March 23, 2000.
