Wolverines vs. Golden Gophers
Michigan and Minnesota will meet for the 23rd time Saturday (March 18). The Golden Gophers hold a 12-10 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-1 victory last year in Minneapolis. Michigan has dominated the series in the 1990s, posting an impressive 8-3 record against Minnesota. The Wolverines are 8-10 all-time against the Gophers under head coach Bitsy Ritt.
Hart Eyes 15th Win
Senior co-captain Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) heads into this weekend's matches needing one victory for her 15th of the season. Hart leads the team with a 14-7 overall record and is 5-3 in dual match competition at the No. 1 singles spot. She has claimed victories in four of her last six matches and is 2-0 in Big Ten dual match action. Hart has a 64-53 career singles record and is 19-13 in Big Ten Conference competition.
Musgrove Second in Wins
Freshman Joanne Musgrove (LaSalle, Ontario/Sandwich HS) ranks second on the team in wins (12) and is tied for the team lead in dual match victories (five). Musgrove heads into this weekend's matches with a 12-7 overall record and a 5-3 dual match mark. She won a three-set match (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) against San Diego State's Laura Aguero at the No. 4 spot in her last match and has won seven of her last 11 matches on the year. Musgrove leads the squad in doubles victories with eight (8-4), including a 5-1 mark in dual match competition.
Lund Nearing 10 Wins
After missing the early portion of the dual match season with a strained stomach muscle, senior co-captain Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) has returned to post three wins in four matches. Lund enters the weekend needing two victories for 10 this season (8-5 overall record). She has a 3-1 record at the No. 2 singles spot, with the only setback coming in three sets to Northwestern's Shannon Duffy (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) on Feb. 26. Lund defeated San Diego State's Katja Karrento (6-3, 7-6) in her last match, moving her into sole possession of seventh place on Michigan's all-time career singles list. Lund has a 72-51 career singles record and needs one victory to tie Sora Moon (1995-98) for sixth place and five wins to pass Stacy Berg (1988-91) for fifth place.
