Wolverines Fall 5-2 at Home to Fighting Illini

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After opening the season with four consecutive wins, the University of Michigan women's tennis team suffered its third straight loss with a 5-2 setback Sunday afternoon (Feb. 27) against Illinois at the Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan (4-3, 0-2 Big Ten) claimed both team points in singles and was swept in doubles for the first time this year.

Michigan managed victories at the top two singles spots but was unable to collect a point in the other four matches. Senior co-captain Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) won her team-leading 14th singles matches with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Eldina Fazlic. Senior co-captain Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) followed with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win against Simone Kung.

Michigan was forced to shuffle its singles lineup as junior Szandra Fuzesi (Budapest, Hungary/Balassi Balint Gimnazium) was unable to play No. 3 singles after suffering an injury during yesterday's Northwestern match.

Michigan will look to end its three-match losing streak at San Diego State on Thursday (March 3) at 2 p.m. PST.
