Series History vs. St. Lawrence
Friday's game will be the 10th meeting between the Wolverines and the Saints. Michigan leads the series 6-2-1. This will be the first time St. Lawrence has played in Yost Ice Arena, as the Saints' only previous trip to Ann Arbor was a 6-1 Michigan win on Dec. 6, 1952, at the Michigan Coliseum.
Last Time vs. the Saints
Josh Langfeld's (Coon Rapids, Minn.) tip of a Chris Fox shot with 5:58 left in the game gave Michigan a 3-2 victory over St. Lawrence in the first semifinal of the 1997 Great Lakes Invitational (Dec. 27, 1997). The Wolverines outshot the Saints 47-17. St. Lawrence goaltender Eric Heffler made 44 saves but suffered the loss. For Michigan, Marty Turco turned aside 15 shots for the win. Langfeld added an assist for a two-point game.
Last Weekend
Mike Cammalleri and Andy Hilbert led an offensive attack at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich., as Michigan defeated Northern Michigan 6-2 on Friday (Dec. 1) and tied the Wildcats 2-2 on Saturday (Dec. 2). Cammalleri (3-1-4) and Hilbert (2-2-4) each recorded four-point weekends and extended scoring streaks, while Jeff Jillson and Josh Blackburn led the defensive stand. Jillson was +3 with zero penalty minutes while adding a goal and two assists to give him 71 career points, 15th all-time at Michigan among defensemen. Blackburn stopped 24 of 26 shots and held the Wildcats to just one power-play goal in 10 chances in the pair of games. On Friday, captain Geoff Koch (Exeter, N.H.) scored his second consecutive short-handed goal and Jed Ortmeyer (Omaha, Neb.) added a goal and an assist.

As the coach of the Wolverines, he has guided Michigan to two NCAA championships and total of nine CCHA regular-season and tournament championships. Under his direction, Michigan was the most successful program in the country during the 1990s, with 314 wins, and was the only school to qualify for all 10 NCAA championship tournaments in the decade. He has also maintained a player graduation rate of over 92 percent during his tenure at U-M.

For his efforts, he was honored as the NCAA Division I Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Entering this weekend's series, Marsh has a career coaching record of 288-208-31. He is the winningest coach in St. Lawrence hockey history and has led the Saints to more NCAA Championship tournament appearances (six) than any other coach at the school.
CCHA Offensive Player of the Week

Cammalleri recorded three goals and one assist in Michigan's win and tie against the Wildcats. He was on the ice for six of U-M's eight goals forced and only one goal against, Northern Michigan's power-play goal on Friday (Dec. 1). This is the first time in Cammalleri's career that he has been honored as a CCHA Player of the Week.
History Lesson
This weekend's series will be the just the second meeting between the teams in last 48 years. The teams faced off at the 1997 Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, where Michigan won 3-2 in the semifinal game. Prior to that GLI game, the last meeting was March 17, 1962, in an NCAA Championship tournament consolation game which featured current Wolverine head coach Red Berenson in his final collegiate game. He led the Wolverines to a 5-1 victory over the Saints. Incidentally, Michigan State head coach Ron Mason was on that 1962 St. Lawrence squad.
Forty-Eight Years and Two Days Ago
On Friday (Dec. 8), it will have been 48 years and two days since the last meeting between St. Lawrence and Michigan in Ann Arbor. The last local match was a 6-1 Michigan win on Dec. 6, 1952.
