This Week
The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (6-1-2, 4-1-0 CCHA) faces the Ferris State Bulldogs (2-4-2, 0-3-1 CCHA) in a home-and-home series. On Friday (Nov. 10) at 7:35 p.m., the Bulldogs visit Yost prior to hosting the Wolverines at Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich., on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 7:05 p.m. The teams split the two-game series last season, each winning on the road.
Catch the Game
• In Person -- Contact the Michigan Athletic Ticket Office at 734-764-0427 for ticket information regarding Friday's game at Yost. Call the FSU ticket office at 231-592-2881 for Saturday ticket information.
• On Television -- Friday's game will be televised live on WOLV, with the feed also being shown on UMTV (Ch. 22 on MediaOne). That game is scheduled to be replayed Monday (Nov. 13) at 8 p.m. on UMTV. Friday's game will also be live on the Internet at MGoBlue.com. Saturday's game is not scheduled to be televised.
• On the Radio -- All Michigan hockey games are broadcast on WTKA (1050 AM), which can also be heard on the Internet at MGoBlue.com. Al Randall covers play-by-play, while Jim Hunt provides color commentary. Home games are also on WCBN Student Radio (88.3 FM).
Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
Red Berenson is in his 17th year as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. Coach Berenson owns a career record of 427-208-42 and is the 15th winningest coach in NCAA history. Over his career, Berenson has 756 games associated with Michigan hockey (677 as a coach, 79 as a student-athlete). As the coach of the Wolverines, he has guided Michigan to two NCAA championships and total of nine CCHA regular-season and tournament championships. Under his direction, Michigan was the most successful program in the country during the 1990s, with 314 wins, and was the only school to qualify for all 10 NCAA championship tournaments in the decade.
Michigan vs. Ferris State
Friday's game will be the 67th meeting between the Wolverines and the Bulldogs. Michigan leads the series 43-21-2. Michigan is 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings, dating back to Dec. 31, 1996. At home, Michigan is 23-9-0 against the Bulldogs. On the road, U-M is 19-12-1 vs. FSU.
Berenson vs. the Bulldogs
Michigan head coach Red Berenson holds a record of 39-16-1 against Ferris State and a 17-5-1 record against the Bulldogs' head coach, Bob Daniels.
Last Time Against FSU
After winning 4-2 at Ferris State the previous night, Michigan was handed a 4-2 loss at Yost Ice Arena by the Bulldogs on Feb. 5, 2000. Scott Matzka (Port Huron, Mich.) and Andy Hilbert (Howell, Mich.) scored power-play goals to give Michigan a 2-0 lead halfway through the game. However, Ferris State scored four unanswered goals to win the game and split the season series at one win each. Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) stopped 13 of 16 shots and suffered his first loss of last season.

Last Weekend
Michigan suffered its first loss of the season, falling 1-0 to Michigan State (Nov. 5) at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines fired 31 shots on net, but Spartan netminder Ryan Miller stopped them all. Michigan's defense held MSU to just 13 shots on goal and killed five of six Spartan power-play chances. The only score of the game was a power-play goal by Rustyn Dolyny with three minutes left in the first period.
Back in Action
Geoff Koch (Exeter, N.H.) returned to the Wolverines' lineup for the game against Michigan State. Koch, a senior forward and the team captain, was out for the previous four games with an ankle injury.
The Way-Back Machine
The last time Michigan State defeated Michigan at Yost Ice Arena was Oct. 25, 1997, when the Wolverines fell to the Spartans 4-2. Michigan went on to win the NCAA championship later that season. The last time Michigan was shut out by MSU was a 3-0 game at Yost Ice Arena on Dec. 9, 1988.
Looking Forward to the Bulldogs
Defenseman Jeff Jillson (N. Smithfield, R.I.) has a goal and four assists for five points in five games against Ferris State. Jillson leads all active players in both assists and scoring against the Bulldogs. In just two games, sophomore Andy Hilbert has three goals against Ferris State.
Annual Tradition
Over the last few seasons, Michigan and Ferris State have had at least one game of the season's series that reaches 47 or more combined penalty minutes. In the last 10 games against Ferris State, Michigan has averaged 29.0 penalty minutes per game, while Ferris State has averaged 23.8 penalty minutes per game.
Playing Tough
In the last seven games with the Bulldogs, the series is even at 3-3-1. In that span, six of the seven games have been decided by two goals or fewer.
Shutting the Door
In six of nine games this year, Michigan has held the opposition to two or fewer goals in a game. Its record is 5-1-0 when that happens, with the only loss a 1-0 shutout against Michigan State (Nov. 4).
Strong Finishes
Michigan has scored 23 goals in the second and third periods while allowing the opposition a total of just 20 goals this season.
Firing Range
In the first period of games this season, the Wolverines have taken more than twice as many shots of goal as the opposition. Michigan has taken 122 shots on goal in the first period while allowing just 59.

Top 50
Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) entered U-M's top 50 in career scoring with 123 points (48-75-123). He is currently tied with Tom Stiles (1982-86) for 49th all-time at Michigan. Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) needs just eight more points to join the same group. Currently, he has 56 goals and 59 assists for 115 points in his career.
