Thomas Scores Three TDs
Senior tailback Anthony Thomas (Winnfield, La./Winnfield HS) tallied his 50th career rushing touchdown with a one-yard run with 8:36 reminaing in the first quarter against Northwestern. With that touchdown, Thomas became the third Wolverine to score 300 career points. Thomas has 52 career rushing TDs and is two scores away from Tyrone Wheatley's (1991-94) modern era touchdown record and needs 12 points to match Wheatley's modern era scoring record of 324 career points.
Thomas Ties Wheatley for 100-Yard Rushing Games
Anthony Thomas had a record-setting day against the Wildcats, tying Tyrone Wheatley for the school record with 20 career 100-yard rushing games. Thomas rushed 15 times for 109 yards and scored one touchdown during the first half, and finished the contest with 199 yards on 37 carries and three touchdowns.
Thomas Sets Career Rushing Attempts Record
With his 19th rushing attempt of the game (seven-yard run with 7:44 left in the third quarter), Anthony Thomas became Michigan's career leader in rushing attempts. He surpassed Jamie Morris' (1984-87) 13-year record that stood at 809 career attempts for a school-record 4,393 yards. Thomas has 828 career attempts for 4,057 yards, and needs 336 rushing yards in the final three games to overtake Morris for the yardage record.
Terrell Equals Career High with Three Receiving TDs
Junior wide receiver David Terrell (Richmond, Va./Huguenot HS) equaled his career high with three receiving touchdowns during today's game. Terrell caught touchdown passes of 11, 10 and 22 yards on consecutive drives during the first half, equaling his three-touchdown game in the 2000 Orange Bowl. Terrell caught a season-high nine passes for 117 yards in the game. He has 20 career receiving TDs and is fourth on Michigan's career receiving touchdown list. With 11 recieiving TDs this season, Terrell is tied for third with Desmond Howard (1990), Derrick Alexander (1992) and Tai Streets (1998).
Henson Surpasses 2,000 Career Passing Yards, Sets Career Highs
Junior quarterback Drew Henson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) broke the 2,000-yard passing mark in his career during the Northwestern game. Henson completed a career-high 23-of-35 passing attempts for 312 yards and four touchdowns. His four touchdown passes tied the school record, while his passing total ranks as the third most passing yards in school history. He has completed 171-of-300 career attempts for 2,137 yards and 17 TDs.
Scoring Frenzy
The 105 combined points by both teams was the fifth highest scoring game in Michigan history and the most since the "Point a Minute" teams of Fielding H. Yost (1901-04).
Anderson Gains Most Yards Against Wolverines
Northwestern tailback Damien Anderson gained the most rushing yards in a game against Wolverines, rushing for 268 yards on 31 carries and scoring two touchdowns. The Wildcats as a team gained 332 rushing yards on 50 carries, the most against Michigan since Minnesota gained 321 yards on Nov. 7, 1987.
Northwestern Sets Total Offense Record
The Wildcats' 654 total offensive yards on 90 plays were the most ever against Michigan. The previous high by an opponent was 530 yards gained earlier this season by Purdue (Oct. 14, 2000).
