Thomas Named Michigan Football's Most Valuable Player

Thomas set Michigan records for career rushing touchdowns (53) and 100-yard rushing games (21) during the 2000 season while leading the Wolverines to a share of the Big Ten Conference title, the third for Michigan in the past four seasons.
Senior tackles Jeff Backus (Norcross, Ga./Norcross HS) and Maurice Williams (Detroit, Mich./Pershing HS) and senior co-captain offensive guard Steve Hutchinson (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs HS) were named tri-winners of the HUGH H. RADER JR. MEMORIAL AWARD as Michigan's top offensive linemen.
This is the second Rader Award for Backus (1999) and Hutchinson is a finalist for the 2000 Lombardi Award.
Senior outside linebacker Andy Sechler (Union City, Mich./Union City HS), a special teams performer who is a psychology major in a pre-med program, earned the DR. ARTHUR D. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD as the leading student-athlete on the football team.
Junior/sophomore Victor Hobson (Mt. Laurel, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep), who led the Wolverines in tackles for loss (10 for 27 yards) for the regular season, was named winner of the ROGER ZATKOFF AWARD as Michigan's top linebacker.
Senior center David Brandt (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) and senior safety DeWayne Patmon (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS) were named co-winners of the ROBERT P. UFER BEQUEST. The Ufer Bequest is awarded to the senior football player(s) who demonstrate the most enthusiasm and love for Michigan.
Brandt and Patmon, the leading tackler on the team, are both four-year lettermen.
